It was around the time of Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl, when we learnt not to be the ‘Cool Girl’, even as ‘cool girls’ were still abundant in so much of literature and popular culture generally. My Megan Abbott literary crush began a few years back, when she’d paused on reimagining noir tropes of the first part of the twentieth century and instead had delved into the realm of the contemporary, with a particular focus on the darkness of teenage girls. ![]()
